Recognition/nostrification of previous university/bachelor’s education

Nostrification is a process of granting recognition of a degree from a foreign university.

By law, the applicant shall request a recognition of her/his bachelor’s Diploma at a Czech public university which provides similar study modules. If the Czech Republic signed a recognition agreement with the country of origin of the foreign university, the institution responsible for nostrification is the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

Graduates of economic or similar degree programs at international universities that wish to enroll into IDS, could request recognition at the University of Economics, Prague. For degree programs offered at the University, and to compare your previous module of study, please visit the University‘s main webpage. For non-economic graduates, please contact the Program Coordinator if you need more guidance.

Recognition requirements at the University of Economics, Prague:

  1. Nostrification form for recognition/nostrification of previous university/bachelor’s education;
  2. Certificate of university education - legalized (notarized) copy of the bachelor’s Diploma. Note that in countries which have signed the Hague Apostille Convention you will also need an Apostille;
  3. Academic transcript/report from the applicant’s university (original letter on university letterhead paper; with a signature of responsible person and a stamp; sent by post, electronic copy is not accepted; if applicable, transcript needs to bear an Apostille). The Academic transcript/report must include:
    • A list of all courses completed during the bachelor’s education;
    • ECTS credits or allocated number of class hours per week for all courses on the list;
    • Grades in all courses on the list;
    • The grading scale.
    • (A transcript/description of particular courses may also be required if any problem occurs in the recognition process.)
  4. The documents should be either in English or German language, or their formal translation (by legal translator or Czech embassy abroad) into Czech/English language is required.

In case you are still studying, but you will be awarded bachelor’s degree in the current academic year, you have to send us the Confirmation of Study from the University and the actual Academic Transcript/Report.

We can provide applicants to IDS with reasonable assistance for completing the recognition/nostrification process. If needed, the applicants should contact the Program Coordinator (eva.grebe@vse.cz), or the Program’s Academic Director (rolencj@vse.cz) asap. Before making such inquiry, applicants should familiarize themselves with information about the reocngition/nostrification process here.

Recognition/nostrification is not required for graduates from Czech and Slovak universities.

Graduates from Slovenian, Hungarian and Polish universities with diplomas that are part of the Bilateral Agreements can be used in the Czech Republic directly without recognition. A confirmation of documents’ equivalence for the purpose of further education in the Czech Republic is not necessary.  However, if the holder of a document considers such confirmation relevant and necessary, he or she can request the Ministry or the appropriate university department, for the recognition of the foreign university education.

Gragudates from German universities request an “osvědčení” at a Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
