Admitted to IDS? Start here
This page is for students who have been admitted to the IDS bachelor’s or master’s program. Work through it in order – the first section has deadlines you cannot make up later.
Four things to do first: confirm your place in InSIS · get your previous education assessed · apply for a visa · apply for a dormitory room.
- Confirm your place in InSIS. Once you are admitted, open your e-application in InSIS and confirm that you intend to enrol. Do this by the announced deadline – applicants who miss it may be removed from the list of admitted students.
- Assessment of previous education. Handled through your e-application; you will need your diploma and transcript, or a confirmation of study if you have not graduated yet.
- Visa or residence permit (non-EU students). Applications take 60 days, and up to 120 in complicated cases. Start immediately. We issue your confirmation of study and, if you have applied for a dormitory, your proof of accommodation.
- Apply for a dormitory room. If you apply within the deadline, a place is guaranteed, and it costs considerably less than renting privately.
- Tuition payment. Pay according to the instructions in the Study Financing section of your Student Portal. Never send money to any other VŠE account.
- Health insurance. Non-EU students staying longer than 90 days must have comprehensive health insurance. EU students need a European Health Insurance Card.
- Set up your accounts. Activate your InSIS account with multi-factor authentication and your VŠE email. Both are easier to sort out before you are in transit.
- Order your university ID card. Order it online as soon as you have your InSIS account, and collect it once you arrive. Choose the card with the ISIC licence: an ISIC issued abroad cannot be used for the Prague public transport discount.
- Getting from the airport.
- Mathematics bridging course – optional, for students who want to refresh secondary-school maths before the first semester.
- Moving into the dormitory. Arrive on a weekday during office hours; if you cannot, contact the dormitory manager in advance.
- Register with the Foreign Police. Everyone must do this, EU citizens included. If you live in a university dormitory, it is done for you – the dormitory reports your arrival. If you arranged your own accommodation, you have to do it yourself, and the deadlines are short: within 3 days of arrival on a long-term visa, within 30 days on a residence permit or as an EU citizen.
- Biometric residence card. Non-EU students with a long-term residence permit must report in person to the Ministry of the Interior within 30 days of arrival to have their biometric card issued. Book the appointment in advance – slots fill up.
- Collect your university ID card. You will get an email to your VŠE address when it is ready. Check the collection point’s opening hours.
- Connect to eduroam. Set this up on campus or at the dormitory.
- Prague transport card. Order it once you have your VŠE ID card with the ISIC licence.
- Find your way around campus. Campus plan and video tour.
- Mandatory check-in – September 16, Auditorium B (NBB), 10:00. Classes start on September 21.
- Welcome to FIR – faculty welcome event, September 15. Registration required.
- Orientation Days – university-wide programme, September 14-18, organised with ESN VŠE Prague, including the buddy programme.
- How the study system works – credits, semesters, exam periods, registration. Start here – the credit system probably works differently from what you are used to.
- We build your first-semester timetable. We register your compulsory courses. Language and elective courses are up to you. Until the end of the first week of the semester – September 25, 2026 – you can still adjust your timetable in InSIS.
