Visa Notice for Non-EU Applicants

If you need a Czech visa, start early. The visa or residence permit procedure takes 60 days, and up to 120 in complicated cases – and you can only start it once you have been admitted. That is why we recommend applying in Round I of the admission process.

You must be in Prague when classes start

All teaching is on campus, and attendance is compulsory. Winter semester classes start in mid-September, summer semester classes in mid-February.

If your visa is delayed, we can tolerate up to three weeks after the start of classes. After that, you cannot join the program that semester, even if your visa arrives later.

If your visa will not arrive in time

You can interrupt your studies for the first semester and start in February instead. This applies to both bachelor’s and master’s students.

It is not automatic – contact us at ids@vse.cz as soon as you know your visa will be late.

Documents we provide for your visa

  • Confirmation of study – issued after you pass the admission exam. (The University may require payment of tuition for the first semester before the confirmation is issued, so pay as early as you can if you need it for your visa.)
  • Proof of accommodation – only if you have applied for a university dormitory.

Both are accepted by Czech embassies. We cannot issue any other or customised documents. We can also nominate you for Student Mode, a fast track to an embassy interview.

Before you book your flight

Collecting the visa from the embassy can take several more days after it is approved. Wait until the visa is in your passport, then act quickly.
