Master’s (two-year)

The aim of the follow-up master’s program in International and Diplomatic Studies is to produce highly specialized professionals in international politics and foreign policy, with a special emphasis on external economic relations. The program provides advanced theoretical knowledge of international relations, in-depth understanding of international and diplomatic law, and skills for strategic decision-making in foreign service or public diplomacy at an international level.

Professional know-how

A graduate:

has deep interdisciplinary knowledge of international economics, international policy, international law, international security, and ties between these disciplines both on a theoretical and applied level;
understands the current globalization process and its consequences from the global, state, and also world’s regions (including the European region) perspective;
knows principles of foreign policy analysis, foreign policy making of particular countries, and understands the role of the great powers, European Union and other actors in the contemporary world;
has knowledge of diplomatic practice, preventive diplomacy, international negotiations, diplomatic protocol and etiquette, and diplomatic and consular law;
can process and prepare research projects due to know-how acquired during studies abroad.

Professional skills

A graduate is able to:

comprehensively analyse and evaluate, at both the theoretical and applied level, the current order and main trends in contemporary international relations at the global and regional level, and implement this knowledge in practice as needed;
independently analyse concepts of countries‘ foreign policy and different understanding of diplomacy, and interpret foreign policy making extensively and compare it with Czech foreign policy;
effectively participate in international negotiations at a bilateral and multilateral level, and apply principles of diplomatic protocol and multicultural communication in practice;
independently prepare and solve expert projects relating to international relations, evaluate results of primary and secondary research, based on both quantitative and qualitative methods;
use their own expanded professional overview acquired during the mandatory study semester abroad, and thus increase their own competitiveness on the international labour market.

Profile of students suited for the program

The program is suitable for students who have the ability of analytical and theoretical thinking, and at the same time are able to apply acquired knowledge in practice. Study requirements are: advanced knowledge of at least two international languages, ability to understand international processes in their complexity, effective team-work, and motivation to work in an international environment.

Graduates’ profiles, labour market and job opportunities

Graduates are prepared for independent managerial, conceptual and diplomatic work in a current dynamic international environment. Based on their deep interdisciplinary knowledge, they are equipped with strategic decision-making for such an environment. The graduates can work as: career diplomats, executives of international institutions at a state-wide or regional level, executives in European and international political or economic institutions and organizations, top-level managers and conceptual workers of international projects in NGOs, UN agencies, and other international public or private institutions, research workers, professional analysts, and also employees in mass media.

Degree

The master’s degree in International and Diplomatic Studies is a Czech national degree awarded by the Prague University of Economics and Business. Graduates are entitled to use the title Ing. according to Czech legislation. (Alumni are able to have their degree evaluated to be equal to their national’s Master’s Degree.)
