Bachelor’s (three-year)

The program will prepare you for the area of international relations and provide you with theoretical and methodological knowledge, as well as extensive language skills.

The program is designed so that you acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the current international practice. The study of International Relations is connected with extensive education in Economics and complemented by the knowledge of Law, Statistics and Mathematics. The education lays special emphasis on the interconnection of knowledge in political, economic, international law, security, cultural and other areas.

A graduate:

has interdisciplinary knowledge of International Relations (International Politics, International Economy, International Law and International Security) and multicultural issues including ethical aspects;
comprehends principles of World Economy, financial markets, behaviour of economic entities, understand causes of market failures and possible solutions;
knows elementary mathematical apparatus, basic probability theories, descriptive statistics and information technology;
knows the structure and principles of foreign services and international institutions, know diplomacy, diplomatic practice and protocol, know state political systems and their foreign policies, and know the law, especially International Law;
is able to apply major theoretical concepts in the area of International Relations (International Politics, International Economy, International Law and International Security), identify key dimensions, organisation structure, management models and instruments used in diplomacy, and are able to interconnect International Studies and Diplomacy with related issues, e.g. economic and political development of states, internal legal aspects;
is able to evaluate aspects of the link between Foreign Policy and other areas of the state development and are able to assess benefits and risks when implementing various models in Foreign Policy and legal context of individual instrument implementation.

Professional skills

A graduate is able to:

analyse international political and economic phenomena, international institutions, other actors of international relations and ideas;
analyze the causes, consequences and wider context of international political events using the basic concepts of the field;
understand basic principles of the world economy, financial markets, behavior of economic subjects, to understand the causes of market failures and the possibilities of solving them, to know basic mathematical apparatus, basic theory of probability and descriptive statistics and information technology;
identify main characteristics and tendencies of international development and clarify causes and contexts of current international conflicts, and apply knowledge of International Law, diplomatic protocol, principles of international negotiations and intercultural communication;
decide independently using basic tools of management and finance control in the changing international environment;
communicate in oral and written form at least in two world languages at the C1 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in the field of International Relations;
apply knowledge of individual management models of foreign services and cooperation of various actors, implement the analysis of political, economic, legal, cultural and security situation in a particular country, and apply in practice knowledge of foreign relations management, diplomatic communication and International Law;
establish relations with foreign partners, lead negotiations and present views, both to partners and media, contribute to the self-presentation of state.

Graduates’ profiles, labour market and job opportunities

Graduates acquire knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature as required by experts in current international practice. The graduates can work as: agents of the foreign service, assistants of international departments in the field of state administration, junior managers in European and international political and economic institutions and organizations, managers of international projects in NGOs, UN agencies, other international governments and NGOs at lower and junior management levels, and also employees in mass media.

Degree

The bachelor’s degree in International and Diplomatic Studies is a Czech national degree awarded by the Prague University of Economics and Business. Graduates are entitled to use the title Bc. according to Czech legislation. (Alumni are able to have their degree evaluated to be equal to their national’s Bachelor’s Degree.)
